Monsters

by Paul Sultana

/

about

Written back in 2013 but now more true than ever, I was exploring the themes of evil in the world. Not satisfied with any of the answers I got until I stumbled upon the work of Dr. Michael Heiser, and Old Testament scholar and author. His work on the Watcher and the Unseen Realm helped me come to grips with the why and how of evil in this world and inspired this song. It may seem grim, but there is a happy ending.

lyrics

Remember when we started off
Life was good we had the lot
We weren't afraid to take a chance
Free to sing and dance
But then one day when they spoke up
And told us that it's not enough
We couldn't keep our own hearts alive
We couldn't even smile

When times are hard it's hard to miss
There are monsters in our midst
Monsters in our midst

They cheat they lie they call us to arms
Break it down until we all fall apart
There was some good in our eyes before all of this
Now we've been given compromise and empty promises

When times are tough I must admit
There are monsters in our midst

We say it's wrong
We don't want it to go on
You tell the lie
It's for mankind
But I'm a man and I don't understand
Yes, I am human and I don't understand
No

Take him down from off the block
Take a look at what we've done
They will forget it down the line
And wipe it from their minds
And needlessly it will fall apart
When we erase what was at the start
The monsters raise their voice and cry
Give us your ears and eyes

It's time to put your trust in this
We are the monsters in your midst

We say it's wrong
We don't want it to go on
You tell the lie
It's for mankind
But I'm a man and I don't understand
Yes, I am human and I don't understand
No

Ignorant and uncomprehending
They wander in darkness
While the foundations of the world are tottering
I had thought, are you gods
Are all of you sons of the Most High
No, you will die as human beings do
As one man, princes, you will fall

We say it's wrong
We don't want it to go on
You tell the lie
It's for mankind
But I'm a man and I don't understand
Yes, I am human and I don't understand

We say it's wrong
We don't want it to go on
You tell the lie
It's for mankind
But I'm a man and I don't understand
Yes, I am human and I don't understand

One day it all will be redeemed
One day the world will see their King
